R+P Post 7: Our opening sequence's planned mis-en-scene

Our opening sequence in terms of mis-en-scene will be dreary and dark to successfully represent the genre.
Camera:
We will use various shot types to convey the feel of the different parts of the scene this will ensure that our opening is as engaging as possible. The beginning of the opening sequence will showcase various close-up shots when filming our main antagonist whilst making sure his identity is kept hidden, helping to create a sense of mystery. Many films do this, and keep their antagonists face hidden through out the film, such as "Saw"

To film the news reporters, we will use mid-shots.When the reporter goes missing the camera will shake this ‘unintentional’ action will give the audience the impression that something bad is happening to the cameraman. This use of a hand-held camera is common in films with this genre. The camera man will drop the camera and that movement will be shown also which would hopefully disturb the audience and make them assume the worst.
(below is an example of a hand-held camera used in Blair Witch)

Lighting:

film still from "Don't Breathe"
location: house of 'antagonist'
Our opening sequence will begin with dim-light and lots of shadows to convey the mysteriousness of the character, this will frustrate the audience as they will want to see everything clearly. The news reporter scene will have natural morning light to create a safe and ordinary atmosphere however due to it being winter there will be cloudy skies which will help to foreshadow something going wrong. The reporter will soon after disappear making the audience feel uneasy.
Setting:

1. Laith Lyster's house: We're going to use the stairs and a room in Laiths house, this will seem like a normal house but with the dark shadows and eeriness it will come across spookier. The room will be very clean and organised which will match the antagonists character trait of being very particular and immaculate

2. School: We will be able to create a set to make the news report scene which will be very realistic. The school is a convenient set as there will be several props available to us.

3. Forest: using the forest will help us create a sense of isolation as the news reporter and cameraman have are completely alone which very typical in a thriller film

Prop
Ø Microphone and Lapel microphone
Ø Phone
Ø Laptop
Ø News report notes

Props are imperative as they help the narrative to flow as well as representing the characters better so they are easily recognisable to the audience.
