R+P Post 2: Our target audience and how we plan to attract/address them

Our Target Audience

Our core audience will most likely be fans of action and thriller films and to appeal to them we have included conventions of the genre in the opening.  

An example of this is the climax of the opening sequence where there was a disappearance, with an eerie soundtrack playing over it, with the backdrop of a deserted forest, creating this feeling of suspense and anticipation.

This is a clip from the movie "The woman in Black" the soundtrack that is exactly what we are going for, something disturbing and chilling which will entice our audience and get them excited.



Both the mass and niche audiences watch action film, therefore a lot of different types of people are watching. Many people prefer watching action movies as they are less predictable than romantic comedies and it will provide more of a thrill and induce an adrenaline rush due to its tense plot line, making it very immersive.

Our film will be rated 15 due to the graphic images and language, which is why our core audience are from the ages 15-24+, skewed towards males, this is because films with this genre promote a stereotypical feeling of ‘male dominancy'. 

To appeal to this age group we have age appropriate characters that have aspirational qualities such as courage and bravery. These themes would appeal to the audience and would hopefully be stimulating for example the main character, a young girl in university who is studying criminology suggesting that she has deductive and analytical skills. 

Our film contains actors of varying ethnic backgrounds and female main character therefore attracting a female audience; this will be significant as the last person standing will be the female lead which brings out ideas of strength and female empowerment. Films that they would also like would be "Resident Evil", "Quarantine" and "Don't breathe"
