R+P Post 13: Our animatic

Another thing we done to plan for or test shoot was creating an animatic storyboard.

What is an Animatic?

An animatic is a preliminary version of a film, produced by shooting successive sections of a storyboard and adding a soundtrack.

What did we do?

We done this in school so we had to make use of this and find sets that were as close to our storyboard as possible. When all the pictures were obtained we edited them on Adobe Premier in the same order as the storyboard. We also made sure that it corresponded to our timeline having each and every shot at the correct the or, making them length of time with the soundtrack in background and the voiceovers and sound effects at the correct moments.

Here is a scan of the editing schedule we made in order for the animatic to be completed on schedule.

The reason why we created an animatic
Ø  Animatics are a popular method used among film makers to plan film
Ø  It brings a storyboard to life
Ø  Makes it a lot easier to picture the idea and decide if the idea works well in practice rather than in theory.

Below is our Animatic
How did it benefit our group?

Ø  It helped us figure out how sound would come into play as the character dialogue needed to be the main focus rather than the soundtrack, same with the sound effects
Ø  It made us realise that there were issues with the script regarding its length and its level of detail. After this Laith and I made revisions to it.

Ø  One of our shots has or antagonist opening up a news story/video however there was the issue of getting the news story on to the laptop as it hadn’t been acted out yet. The animatic helped us with the idea of getting an ident playing and then from there cut to the news story full screen so that there would not be a continuity error.
